Summary

Ariocarpus agavoides is a species of cactus. Some taxonomists place it in a separate genus as Neogomesia agavoides. The locals use the slime from the roots of the plants as glue to repair pottery. The sweet-tasting warts are eaten and often added to salads

Cultivation

Grouped as a cactus or succulent by the genus Ariocarpus, which is reliably one kind of plant (archetype table). The table holds no figure for this group, which spans too much for one minimum, and no habitat climate is derived yet; no cold floor is given, and no prose comes from the table.

Nothing derived: no habitat climate for this species, and the archetype table has no figure for its genus or family.

Climate across the habitat

No habitat climate can be derived: 2 in-range records, none placed to within 10 km.

Natural habitat

Native range as published by WCVP.
No openly licensed record to show inside the range.
NativeMexico Northeast
Kew's description“succulent subshrub” · “desert or dry shrubland”· quoted from WCVP, RBG Kew (CC BY 4.0); not derived here
Evidence usedThe map marker rests on all 2 georeferenced records inside the native range; none carries a licence permitting republication, so the map shows no points. 1 record outside the range (gardens, roadsides, misidentifications) ignored. Under a dozen records: treat the map as indicative. No climate envelope is derived for this species. 2 in-range records are placed to worse than 10 km and stay on the map but off the climate.

Papers naming this species

Works whose title or abstract names Ariocarpus agavioides, most cited first, from OpenAlex (CC0). A mention, not a cultivation source: nothing on this page is drawn from them.
